The 2026 GMC Yukon vs. the Competition

2026 GMC Yukon vs the Competition

With a blend of practicality and premium touches that bring families together, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are the right vehicles when family and cargo space are among your top priorities. Our large three-row SUVs are designed to carry up to eight passengers in comfort. Fold down the seats to bring home just about anything from the store. Not only does the Yukon come in two lengths, but it also offers a variety of engines designed for specific tasks. You also have a great choice between the top-shelf Denali luxury model and the capable off-road-ready AT4.

With this kind of variety available, how well does the GMC Yukon compete against the competition?

2026 GMC Yukon vs Toyota Sequoia

Toyota’s Sequoia is the company’s large SUV that offers more for its owners. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid driveline, it is also unique in that it is the only electrified vehicle in its class. It is available in two- and four-wheel drive.

While the Sequoia has only one driveline – the hybrid twin-turbocharged V6 – you have a choice of power in the Yukon. You have a choice of two V8s and our Duramax turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers 495 pound-feet of torque at low revs for maximum hauling.
  • The Yukon with rear-wheel drive and the Duramax diesel should achieve improved fuel economy over Toyota’s hybrid. Last year, the Yukon and Yukon XL were rated by the EPA up to 27 mpg – better than the Sequoia. Plus, the Yukon has a larger standard fuel tank for better driving range.
  • With the regular-length Yukon, you still have more cargo space overall with up to 122.8 cubic feet (with the second and third rows down). There’s even space behind the third row with 25.5 cubic feet.
  • Toyota only offers one length and wheelbase for its Sequoia. The Yukon offers an extended version – the XL – for families who need more space. Behind the third row, the Yukon XL has 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 144.5 cubic feet. It also has excellent third-row seating space for up to three passengers.
  • GMC leads in driver assistance technology. The available Super Cruise gives drivers some time to relax while staying on the road. This technology is not available on the Sequoia.
  • A proven four-wheel-drive system is easy to use through a two-speed transfer case. However, the AT4 and AT4 Ultimate offer more capability with off-road equipment that will take you everywhere. This trim level is available on both the Yukon and Yukon XL.
  • The large 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment touchscreen serves as a hub for Google Built-in services and apps.

2026 GMC Yukon vs Ford Expedition

The 2026 Expedition is a showcase of innovations designed to offer the latest technology, passenger comfort, and cargo management. With EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 power, the Expedition has a proven engine that delivers solid fuel economy. It is available in two- and four-wheel drive.

  • Ford offers only a twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid driveline. The GMC offers three engines, including the Duramax turbocharged diesel, which delivers 495 pound-feet of torque. That is more torque than the Expedition’s twin-turbocharged engine.
  • Compared to the Expedition’s twin-turbo V6, the Yukon with rear-wheel drive and the Duramax diesel should achieve improved fuel economy. Last year, the Yukon and Yukon XL were rated by the EPA for up to 27 mpg – better than the new Expedition.
  • The Expedition’s new dashboard has a very contemporary design. Does it make driving easier? The Yukon offers you a straightforward driving environment with easy-to-read instrumentation, tactile controls where you need them, and a larger steering wheel.
  • The new Expedition Tremor was developed to match the Yukon AT4’s capabilities. GMC has the advantage of an additional trim – the AT4 Ultimate – giving you a choice of more features while enjoying trails and roads beyond the highway. You can also get both the AT4 and AT4 Ultimate in the Yukon XL.
  • While the Expedition offers its Multi-Function Split Gate, there is nothing like the convenience of loading your luggage or major shopping right at the bumper with the Yukon’s one-piece liftgate. The lower gate extends loading and unloading by several inches, increasing the reach of items loaded into the cargo hold.
  • The 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment touchscreen also serves as a hub for Google Built-in services and apps. The screen is larger than the Expedition’s.

2026 GMC Yukon vs Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Revised for 2026, Jeep consolidated its large SUV lineup with a variety of trim levels that range from practical to luxurious. The Grand Wagoneer combines upscale design with Jeep’s famed capability. It comes in two- and four-wheel-drive, powered by a twin-turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine.

  • The Grand Wagoneer only offers one engine – the highly touted Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. On the Yukon, you have choices, including the Duramax turbocharged diesel. The available diesel puts down more torque – 495 pound-feet worth – than the Wagoneer’s engine. Plus, the Yukon has a ten-speed automatic transmission compared to the Wagoneer’s eight-speed.
  • The Yukon with rear-wheel drive and the Duramax diesel should achieve improved fuel economy over the Jeep’s twin-turbo inline six. Last year, the Yukon and Yukon XL were rated by the EPA at up to 27 mpg – better than the new Wagoneer.
  • The Yukon’s V8 engines feature cylinder deactivation, which helps improve fuel economy and overall engine efficiency.
  • When it comes to off-road capability, one would expect that the Jeep would be better. You can upgrade to the Grand Wagoneer Upland with all-terrain tires and a package with enhanced suspension, but it is not a match for the Yukon AT4 and AT4 Ultimate. The AT4 was engineered to go farther off the highway, with available Active Response 4WD and a specific long-travel suspension for better articulation and terrain management.
  • In terms of cargo space, the Yukon has more of it. With the second- and third-row seats down, the GMC can accommodate up to 122.8 cubic feet – more than the Wagoneer. It also has more space with the third-row seats up, with 72.5 cubic feet.
  • When it comes to features, the Yukon does not skimp on anything. Third-row passengers have their own vents, as well as available headphone jacks, headphones, and video monitors for second- and third-row passengers.
  • The 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment touchscreen also serves as a hub for Google Built-in services and apps. The screen is larger than the Grand Wagoneer’s, and Jeep does not offer Google Built-in.

2026 GMC Yukon vs Nissan Armada

The Nissan Armada is bolder than before and offers more choices for its customers. Nissan went with its own twin-turbocharged V6 engine for power (instead of a V8 as in previous-generation models). It is offered in two- and four-wheel drive.

  • The Armada’s only engine is the new twin-turbocharged V6. With the Yukon, you have a choice of three engines, including the Duramax turbocharged diesel. All of the Yukon’s engines are paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission compared to the Armada’s nine-speed.
  • The Yukon with rear-wheel drive and the Duramax diesel should achieve improved fuel economy over the Nissan’s twin-turbo V6. Last year, the Yukon and Yukon XL were rated by the EPA at up to 27 mpg – better than the new Armada. The Yukon also has a larger 24-gallon fuel tank as standard.
  • With the regular-length Yukon, you still have more cargo space overall  up to 122.8 cubic feet with the second and third rows down. There’s even space behind the third row with 25.5 cubic feet.
  • Nissan only offers one length and wheelbase for the Armada. The Yukon offers an extended version – the XL – for families who need more space. Behind the third row, the Yukon XL has 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 144.5 cubic feet. It also has excellent third-row seating space for up to three passengers.
  • Nissan requires you to use Premium Unleaded fuel. You can run the Yukon’s standard 5.3-liter V8 on just Regular Unleaded. That is an immediate fuel savings passed on to you.
  • Elevated interiors attract customers. The Armada Platinum Reserve is quite luxurious. However, GMC wrote the book on SUV luxury. Both the Denali and Denali Ultimate trim levels deliver exceptional luxury and features that coddle you and your passengers for miles on end.
  • GMC leads in driver assistance technology. The available Super Cruise gives drivers some time to relax while staying on the road. That type of technology exists in the Armada, too.
  • The 16.8-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment touchscreen also serves as a hub for Google Built-in services and apps. The screen is larger than the Armada’s.
