Pickuptrucktalk.com Reviews the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT  

Hoping to put their best foot forward, it isn’t uncommon for manufacturers to loan automotive writers fully-loaded, top-level vehicles to sample, leaving middle-tier or even entry-level variants out to dry. Thanks to a recent rental during a trip to Florida, Pickuptrucktalk.comeditors had the opportunity to review a Sierra 1500 SLT, a model that lives in the middle of the Sierra 1500 portfolio. Michael Hohl of GMC reports what they found.  

The Sierra SLT sits above the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trims, but is priced below (and includes a little less standard equipment) than the Sierra AT4/ AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The Sierra SLT sampled by Pickuptrucktalk.com appears to be a crew-cab, short-box, four-wheel-drive example, carrying a MSRP (including destination) of $60,995.  Although the Sierra SLT is available with several packages that can add additional features at added cost, as described, this particular truck was not so equipped. 

On this particular truck, power came from the 5.3-liter V-8, producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, which is standard on Sierra 1500 SLT crew cab models. The author reports he achieved about 20 mpg during his time with the truck, which is about par for the category. This Sierra 1500 SLT was rated at 1,841 pounds of payload and had a 9,200-pound towing capacity, neither of which were tested during this rental period. The ride proved to be smooth, and visibility was good. 

The middle-spec Sierra SLT gives you a nicely laid-out dash with a large 13.4-inch infotainment screen, the same size screen found on more upscale Sierra models. Better yet, it also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectively, which reportedly paired seamlessly with the author’s phone. Other premium-grade features include heated seats and steering wheel (which probably don’t see much use in Tampa), climate vents for rear passengers, and underseat storage for all those things you want to keep around permanently and securely. In the cargo bed, the versatile Multi-Pro tailgate is a welcome standard feature.  

What you don’t get as standard equipment on the Sierra SLT – at least until you start adding packages or individual options – are a sliding rear window, adaptive cruise control, and any sort of trailer-focused rear camera system. You will also have to make do without a sunroof and ventilated seats, unless you’re willing to opt for the available SLT Preferred or SLT Convenience packages, respectively. 

In short, the Sierra 1500 SLT is neither a bare-bones work truck nor a full-tilt luxury vehicle. It is a comfortable, extremely well-appoiinted vehicle that will do all the things a pickup truck is expected to do very well.
