​​Should You Buy a Black Car or Truck?​ 

Black can be one of the most visually striking colors available on a new car or truck today – and perhaps it’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular colors on vehicles here in Nevada. That said, black paint can cause some headaches – keeping the finish clean and shiny can take a lot of effort and patience, especially in dustier climates like ours.

Should that dissuade you from purchasing a black car or truck?  Well, it’s worth considering the pros and cons of making such a move, especially according to some of the arguments recently presented on MSN.com. 

 Not surprisingly, one positive cited is the cool, classy, even upscale aura exuded by a black car or truck. Black paint can help highlight certain forms or shapes in the vehicle’s design, making it appear even more elegant or exotic. 

While black paint can hide dust at night, however, it’s a completely different matter in the day.  Dust and dirt are inherently more visible on black paint than on many other colors, no matter how much time or money you spend at your local car wash. Worse, scratches or swirl marks are also more visible on a gloss black surface.  

That additional maintenance could, in theory, hit your wallet twice. If black cars require more time and expense to maintain their finish, it may also make them less desirable on the used car market, impacting your potential resale value – especially if you lapse on proper car care

Additionally, if you live in a climate where summers reach well over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, you will find that black painted vehicles may absorb more heat than other colors, making your cooling and climate systems work a little bit harder.
